Gossip Girl is an American teen drama series based on the book series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar.
The series was created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and premiered on The CW on September 19, 2007.
Narrated by the omniscient yet unseen blogger "Gossip Girl", voiced by Kristen Bell, the series revolves around the lives of privileged young adults on Manhattan's Upper East Side in New York City.
The series begins with the return of Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) from a mysterious stay at a boarding school in Connecticut.
Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), whom creators describe as the queen at the center of their chess game, is a longtime friend and occasional rival of Serena's, and the Queen Bee of Constance Billard School's social scene. The story also follows Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), the bad boy of the Upper East Side, Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), Chuck's best friend, and other characters of the turbulent Manhattan scene: Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), Nate's friend and Serena's on-again, off-again ex; Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr), Dan's best friend; and Dan's ambitious sister Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen).
Blair Waldorf
As the reigning queen of Constance, it's a wonder our little vixen has any time for her favorite extracurricular activity—getting cozy with UES hottie Nate Archibald. From her ruby ring to her perfectly tailored cardigans, Blair is a true disciple of Audrey Hepburn. Read about her Audrey-esque attempts to woo the Yale admissions office in All I Want is Everything.
Serena van der Woodsen
With her navy blue eyes, flowing blonde hair, and statuesque figure, who doesn't want to be Serena van der Woodsen? After all, the only thing more stunning than her smile is her family's bank account. But remember: wherever S goes, scandal is bound to follow. Read about S and B's drama-filled reunion in You Know You Love Me.
Vanessa Abrams
Vanessa is a Brooklyn-based hipster who dreams of attending NYU film school. Whether she's shaving her head or donning Doc Martens, V loves to stand out—and not always in a good way. But beneath her tough exterior, it looks like there's a certain someone V just can't seem to resist. Trace her rocky romance back to its beginnings in It Had to be You.
Jenny Humphrey
A burgeoning young Brooklynite with UES aspirations, Jenny Humphrey stands out from her classmates—and with her 34D chest size it's certainly not hard to command their attention. But don't be fooled by her soft tresses and doe eyes. Deep down, J is as ambitious as any other queen of the UES. Read about her foray into the world of modeling in You're the One That I Want.
Dan Humphrey
Pale, shaggy, and rock star thin, Dan is St. Jude's official American Apparel ambassador. When he's not pounding back coffee or tweaking his poetic musings, he's obsessing over his one true love—Serena van der Woodsen. But be careful, D, you can't always get what you want. Read about his romantic rejection in You Know You Love Me.
Nate Archibald
With his wavy brown hair and deep green eyes, Nate commands a sailboat like he does women's hearts—effortlessly. But if Blair thinks she or any other woman can pin him down, she better take off those rose-tinted Prada glasses. Word is that N isn't the type to take himself completely off the market. Read about his scandalous new romance in I Like It Like That.
Chuck Bass
With looks like he was plucked straight out of an aftershave commercial, Chuck is the ultimate UES party host. But be careful, ladies: whether he's dashing around the UES in his Jaguar convertible or showing off his pet monkey, the City is his jungle, and C is a predator, indeed. Check out the womanizer at his worst in Gossip Girl.
